This position requires a large degree of confidentiality, honesty and trustworthiness, and a vast knowledge of Adult Corrections and institutional standard operating procedures and policies governing the handling of all mail and parcels, disposition of unauthorized property and the Inmate Banking System.
Job responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
Processing, reviewing, and distributing all outgoing and incoming mail, packages, legal mail, certified mail, and courier mail for the facility.
Maintaining security of the facility by searching and reviewing all incoming mail and, when applicable all, outgoing mail for unauthorized items (contraband and correspondence deemed a threat to the safe, secure, and orderly function of the facility).
Opening, searching, and distributing US mail and courier mail each day as well as business mail delivered to both staff and inmates at this facility.
Utilizing computer skills to work with both the Text Behind and GTL programs.
Sorting and distributing large quantities of interoffice staff correspondence and mail.
Maintaining a Security Threat Group listing and utilizes this list to determine censorship of outgoing and incoming mail and packages.
Processing indigent inmate mail accesses and maintaining the Daily Welfare Report to determine indigent eligibility.
Entering and recording all trust fund deposits, cashier's checks, and certified checks and employee canteen deposits.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits with established working hours of Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm and may require working beyond normal work schedule to meet business need.
Note to Current State Employees:
The salary grade for this position is NC02.

If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity.
Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

The Dept.
of Adult Correction is responsible for the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced after conviction for violating North Carolina laws.
This department includes State Prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as the division of Community Supervision.
Other divisions include Administration, Compliance & Accreditation, Comprehensive Health Services, Internal Affairs & Intelligence Operations, Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission, and Rehabilitation & Reentry.
About Caswell Correctional Center:
Caswell Correctional Center is located in Blanch, NC in Caswell County and is a medium custody, male felon unit with a maximum capacity of 484 offenders.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
